Holiday Rentals.co.uk have just released their 2007 survey of investment property trends, identifying the most popular areas to own a holiday home and the best performing areas in terms of rental demand.
The key features of their report make interesting reading:
Distribution of holiday homes and recent trends
Over 90% of holiday homes are located in Europe, and although Spain, France, Italy and Portugal still dominate, the number of properties in Eastern Europe is rising fast. Property listings in Germany, Greece, Malta and Turkey also grew at a faster than average rate last year. Florida and the Caribbean are the next most popular areas, representing 5.2% and 1.5% respectively of all properties worldwide, while further afield, Morocco, South Africa, Thailand and Bali are rising stars.
Top 5 favourite holiday destinations
According to the average number of enquiries per property per month on Holiday-Rentals.co.uk in 2007, the top five favourite holiday destinations, in terms of traveller demand were; Playa de las Americas in Tenerife, Orlando in Florida, Chania in Crete, Lucca in Tuscany, Italy and the Costa Brava in Spain.
Top 5 up and coming destinations
By looking both at where total enquiries from travellers and also holiday home listings increased at a faster than
average rate in 2007, Holiday-Rentals.co.uk has identified that the top five up-and-coming areas are; Kotor in
Montenegro, the Island of Malta, Marrakech in Morocco, Phuket in Thailand and Dubai in the U.A.E.
Top 5 most popular ski resorts
When it comes to ski apartments and chalets, the more well-known, ‘tried-and-tested' destinations enjoy a much
higher level of demand than smaller resorts and many owners are upping the ante by offering gourmet catering
services to guests. The five most popular ski resorts are; Kitzbuhel in Austria, Chamonix on Mont Blanc in France, Verbier/4 Valleys in Switzerland, Les Houches on Mont Blanc, France and The Three Valleys in Savoie, France.
